Minnesota Lynx Acquire Rochester Native Kelly Miller
Jan 30 2009 6:08PM
The Minnesota Lynx today announced that they have acquired Rochester, Minn., native and eight-year WNBA veteran Kelly Miller along with forward LaToya Pringle from the Phoenix Mercury in exchange for Nicole Ohlde. Miller, the former Rochester Mayo High School star, returns to the Twin Cities after attending the University of Georgia and spending the past eight years in the WNBA.
"We're really excited about adding Kelly Miller and LaToya Pringle to our team," said Lynx Executive Vice President Roger Griffith. "Miller is a proven winner and one of the best three-point shooters in WNBA history. She's led her team to a WNBA Championship before and we feel she'll be a great example and mentor to our younger players. Pringle gives us a young and athletic post player who has the ability to be a game-changer on the defensive end with her ability to block shots. While we're extremely excited to add Kelly and LaToya, we're also sad to see Nicole go. We're very appreciative for what Nicole has done for our organization the past five years. She's a true professional and we wish her the best of luck in Phoenix."

MERCURY ACQUIRES NICOLE OHLDE
Posted: Jan. 30, 2009
The Phoenix Mercury today announced its acquisition of Nicole Ohlde from the Minnesota Lynx in exchange for guard Kelly Miller and second-year center LaToya Pringle.
“We were thrilled about the opportunity to pick up a player that we’ve had our eyes on for a few seasons now,” said Mercury general manager Ann Meyers Drysdale. “We’re certain that Nicole’s size and athletic ability will increase our ability to defend and score in the middle.”
“We strongly feel that Nicole will be able to contribute on both ends of the floor in our fast-paced system,” said Mercury head coach Corey Gaines. “With Tangela Smith at center, Nicole’s post defense will help fortify the middle and take pressure off of Tangela. To lose Kelly is very tough, as she’s been an important contributor to our success the past few seasons, but we wish her the best in her home state of Minnesota.”

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (January 21, 2009) — The Connecticut Sun
announced Wednesday that Barbara Turner, Kerri Gardin and Danielle Page
have signed contracts for the 2009 season.
As per team policy, no terms were released.
“We are excited to have Barbara, Kerri and Danielle back this coming
season,” said Sun head coach Mike Thibault. “Both Kerri and Barb
contributed significantly on the court to our success last season, and
with their year of experience and great off-seasons overseas, we expect
even greater things from them this season. Although Danielle did not
play much last year, her contributions on an everyday basis in practice
helped the quality of our overall improvement with her pushing her
teammates to play at a high level every day.”

Sky Signs Erin Thorn
CHICAGO, January 07, 2009 – The WNBA Chicago Sky has signed
guard Erin Thorn to a two year contract, Head Coach and General Manager
Steven Key announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contract have
not been released.
“Having Erin on the team will bring six years of WNBA
veteran leadership, especially post-season experience that the team
needs. She was a big contributor to the post-season success of the
Liberty in 2007 and 2008, I have no doubt that she will contribute both
mentally and physically to building the championship team we are
looking to build,” said Steven Key. “Her ability to spread the floor
and get the ball inside will help tremendously in the coming season.
Erin will add to our core of returning players including the
versatility of forward Candice Dupree and center Sylvia Fowles,
aggressive scoring of Jia Perkins, and the veteran leadership of
Dominique Canty.”
