Chicago Sky Draft Abi Olajuwon in Third Round Abi Olajuwon, the Chicago Sky’s third round draft pick, is excited to have the chance to play at the next level, especially beside several familiar faces. "I'm very excited to come to the Chicago Sky," said Olajuwon. "It's a big city. It's somewhere I've never gotten to spend a lot of time. "I'm excited to play with Courtney [Paris] again. She was a main reason why I came to Oklahoma. I already know a couple Sky players through the recruiting process. Sylvia [Fowles] was my host when I visited LSU. It will make the experience less scary when I see the familiar faces." As a senior, Olajuwon averaged 10.6 points per game. She was OU’s second-leading rebounder bringing in 7.3 boards a game and she averaged playing 23.1 minutes per game. She started all 38 games and led the team shooting 50.6 percent from the field. All of which were career highs. Olajuwon was also an integral part of the third seeded Sooners’ Final Four run. In the tournament she stepped up her game averaging 13.2 points and 8.2 rebounds and she shot 65 percent from the field. Olajuwon recorded consecutive double-doubles in the opening rounds of the tournament. “We feel Abi can come in and compete for one of our post positions,” said Sky General Manager and Head Coach Steven Key. “She had a great senior season and we expect that to be a positive indication of her exciting potential. She was in a unique position early on in her career playing behind an All-American in Courtney Paris. Abi has a chance to make our team and help us strengthen our front line.” |
